What Would Result Of Biopsy For A Damaged ACL With Cyst On Fibula?

My neice recently tore her ACL and her Minisus playing high school basketball. On her CT scan showed she had a cyst on ther fibula. She had a bone scan done and it showed activity in the area plus multiple cyst. She has been recommended to a specialist (Orthopaedic) to have a bx done. I am concerned. What should we expect? What other diagnosis could be the cause other than a sarcoma. I just want my sister to ask the right questions

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

CT scan is a good imaging modality to evaluate bone tumors along with X rays. If mention has been made about a cyst then I do not feel that it is a sarcoma unless the other features of a destructive bone condition with soft tissue involvement is seen. Even harmless cysts need to be taken care of because they can predispose the bone to fracture in the future. Please get the biopsy done and discuss with your doctor.
