What Would Cause A Scratching Noise In The Head?

What would cause a scratching noise in the head? This only happens when I move my head, sit down, stand up, or walk after sitting completely still? It started about 3 weeks ago, went away for about three days, then came back about five days ago, at first very quietly, then becoming louder. I had this once years ago and ended up in the hospital with pneumonia, but no such symptoms now. Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be suffering from tinnitus it is due to eustachian tube block or middle ear infection or middle ear fluid or old age or senile nerve degeneration or temporomandibular joint injury etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. infection or allergy may aggravate the problems. Use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. Avoid allergens, use tablet sinarest twice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
