What Will Be The Underlying Reason For High Cholesterol Value?

Hello Doctor
Am 31 year old male weighing 80 kg with a height of 170cm/5ft 7in. My blood test report showed high level of cholesterol
Total cholesterol 220.8 mg/dl (normal HDL 38.2 (40-60)
LDL 140.4 (100-129)
Triglycerides 190.0 (SGPT 95.0 IU/L (
My Doctor suggested atorvastatin 10 mg h.s .
Vit E 400 mg b.d
ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg b.d all for one month.

I sometimes take OTC medications esp anti inflammatory. Pls note that am not an alcoholic, I have never had it. I take breakfast often from outside and skip meals. My father was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis which advanced to cancer and is no more. My query is
what does these lab values indicate esp high level of SGPT.
what might be the underlying cause
and how should I change my food habits, what should be included and what not
I have started my physical workouts already.

Thank you

your high SGPT is due to effect of atorvastatin on liver, secondly your cholesterol is high but u must give adequate chance to life style modification before starting statin.fix up your target serum cholesterol less that 150,LDL less than 100 .
go for brisk walk for 30 min 5 days a week, avoid fatty food, make your life regular and stress free, repeat lipid profile after 3 months.if levels are not in target range, then start statin with frequent monitoring of liver function.

Cardiologist Dr. Rajesh Teli's  Response
hello,
I have gone through your query. Thanks for using HCM.
you have 2 different issues 1.High cholesterol 2.Deranged liver function as suggested by high SGPT.
for your high cholesterol you should avoid fatty and fast food. You should exercise regularly and monitor cholesterol levels. There are all the chances that your cholesterol may remain under control with only diet and exercise. You should be careful about using Atorvastatin as it may further your liver functions.
Your high SGPT needs investigations to rule out any silent viral infection of liver in past .Did you ever have blood transfusions? Avoid any OTC medication.Kindly discuss with your treating doctor about atorvastatin and have opinion of Hepatologist for high SGPT.
My best wishes
Dr.Rajesh Teli,MD.
