What Will Be The Amount Of Damage To My Brain Due To Head Injury?

Hello,

I tripped off the ramp of a bus yesterday and slammed the side of my head into a pole (the left side of my head). It was a fairly hard hit, and I acquired a lump on my temple. The lump was about the size of an egg, and seems to have traveled slightly over night. Immediately after the hit, I stood up, put my glasses back on a walked to the next bus I was taking, rode for about 20 minutes, and walked home after that (about 15 minutes). When I got home I put ice on it. There was no loss of balance, I was talking fine, no confusion or change in vision. I was fine for the rest of the day, and slept over night. Today, my arms seem sore, it is a type of soreness that seems to ripple through my arms, a cramp-like sensation. There is still a small lump on my temple (it has gone down), and it is still sore. Aside from the soreness in my body (in conjunction with a faint numbness), particularly in my arms and wrists, there are no other symptoms.

My main concern, and my question is how much damage might have ocurred to my brain as a result of this hit. Should I worry? I'm really looking for a medical opinion here; I have no coverage, and realize that once the opinion is given, there's no resposibility on the part of the provider, and that I should err on the side of caution.

Thank you

Hi. From what you describe, I would be reassured that there would have been no significant brain injury sustained. I do not think there is anything that will cause any long-term problem following on from your accident. Clearly, if your symptoms change at all, for example, collapse, dizziness, visual disturbance, then I would seek formal medical attention. However, I do not see anything that worries me, given the symptoms and mechanism of your injury.
