Hi,thank you for posting your query in health care magic.
There are three types of heaing loss:
1.) Conductive-In this case, the cause might be wax in the
ear canal,
Ear infection, ear drum problem, fluid i the middle ear ,problem in the middle ear bones, etc. It is treatable in most cases by ear cleaning/Surgery.
2.)Sensorineural-In this case, the nerve responsible for hearing sensation is affected. It is seen more frequently in Elderly people,Persons exposed to loud noise for long duration,Person suffering from Diabetes,Side-effect of few medicines or any tumour in the
inner ear or brain. It is generally not treatable. You have to avoid the causative agent. You have to use
hearing aid if you have difficulty in normal conversation
3.)Mixed hearing loss-Combination of conductive and sensorineural loss.
To identify what is the type of hearing loss, the intensity of hearing loss and in which hearing frequency, the hearing is more affected, you should undergo a hearing test called Pure tone audiogram with Impedance Audiogram.
It is advisable to consult an
ENT Specialist doctor.He/She would examine your ear by Otoscope and clinically evaluate your hearing. And with the help of hearing test result, the doctor would identify the cause of hearing loss and treat accordingly.
Hope this answers your question.Take care.
