What To Do If A Child Suffering From Asthma Is Having Sore Trachea, Chestpain, Pain While Swallowing?

10 year old son complaining of painful swallowing in throat and going down chest. Also hurts in chest when he takes a big full breath. Feeling around his neck, the side of his trachea is super sore. He has asthma and takes Flovent and singulair but his breathing appears normal and a puff of albuterol didn't do anything to relieve his pain. It hurts to even swallow liquid. Any ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I can understand your concern.

It could be because of infection in the throat. That could be one of the several causes of such problem. You should consult your doctor at the earliest for a complete physical examination. A throat examination is required to suspect a throat infection. Your doctor may order certain investigations based on the physical examination findings. He may ask for a throat swab for culture. Further management depends on the diagnosis made. So consult your doctor for a examination to identify the cause.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
