My Doctor thinks I may have strep throat but my throat is not constantly sore just every couple of weeks. I have been experiencing this since Christmas. Should I just take a long course of antibotics and see if this helps or endeavour to maybe see a specialist to rule out anything more serious.
hi and thanks for the query, there are 2 main causes for sore throat. 1) infection. 2) acid reflux. please see an ENT to come to a diagnosis. if it is infection you will need a course of antibiotic. if it is acid reflux you will require antacids and prokinetic drugs. i do not think that it is anything serious. do regular warm salt water gargling 4 times daily and avoid cold foods. regards, Dr Rajkishori.
