What To Do For Butt Cheek 'on Fire' After Hip Replacement Surgery?

My husband just had a hip replacement surgery yesterday. During the surgery while inserting the prosthetic into the femur, the femur cracked and they had to wrap it in wire. He previously had ankle surgery - on the other leg, and developed a bone infection from all the nuts and byb's that were previously used to repair the ankle. for which he received IV antibiotics for 6 weeks. Also, he is saying that since last evening, his butt cheek is 'on fire'. Is this normal? He is in intense pain. After the surgery, and after the surgeon telling me about the fracture and the wire, the surgeon said he did not want him using the chair lift up the stairs in our home then later, he said use the lift and only put balance weight on the leg. Each time the instructions change.

Hi,
As he had underwent Hemiarthroplasty/THR yesterday so having pain is obvious and for that your doc must hav prescribed you a analgesic . As there was fracture in femur during implant application it was obvious to be wired and any orthopaedic surgeon would do that so dont worry regarding that .
Your husband have history of getting ankle implant infected and later treated with iv antibiotics . It doesn't mean than he ll again get infected .
After hemiarthroplasty/THR one cannot do squatting position so it is not because of break of femur your doc has advised you like that .So your husband would also led the same life as other patient do after hemiarthroplasty /THR just u need to take precautions n follow your doctor's advise .
Hope your husband recovers very fast.

Thanks n regards
