What Signs Confirm The Presence Of Night Blindness?

(short version EYE question: What causes night blindness as we get older?) Why is it harder to drive at night when getting older-all my friends, about 65 and over, have this problem of not being able to see clearly with lights glaring, etc., when driving at night? There is really no point in getting an exam because all of us can still read (some with glasses), still drive, etc.; there would be other symptoms if something like glaucoma, cataract, etc. were a problem, right, so why does it seem harder to see at night now? I hope your appreciated answer is on this form and not by e-mail. I do NOT want an email answer, email not working now....Thanks....

Your problem in old age is due to formation of cataract in the central part of the lens. When there is cataract in the central part, when you see bright light pupil get constricted. That will obscure the vision for short time. The only permanent remedy is surgery, eventhough dilating drops might help you temporarily
