Hello,

You are suffering from side effects of the medicine Rosuvastatin calcium 20mg, you are uncomfortable with severe itching and hives. No throat irritation. The said medicine does cause hypersensitivity reactions (including rash, pruritus, hives, and swelling), etc., stop taking that medicines to prevent further discomfort and complication. You can take antihistamine t get rid of it. Taking a bath or shower will be helpful. Wear loose-fitting clothing and apply cold compresses.

You can apply Hydrocortisone ointment on the affected area to reduce itching and discomfort. Do not touch or scratch. If the reaction is flaring up you should visit ER, and get examined, you may need allergy shots or oral steroid treatment. You should report to your treating doctor so that the medicine you have been taking can be replaced by another that suits you better.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
