What Precautions Should Be Taken Post A Pneumonectomy?

I am 5 1/2 yrs post Rt Pneumonectomy for Melanoma(metastatic) from early mole Rt shoulder widely excised. I have been carefully followed by Oncologist & only recently discharged from his care. I am still carefully monitored by my Dermatologist every 3 months. I am a retired Family Physician and use my sun screen regularly! Any suggestions or thoughts you might advise. Thanks. Thanks for contacting with your health concern

1. As you are under the regular supervision of Oncologist and Dermatologist thus they must have given due precautions/suggestions as what to do after the procedure, [since 5 and 1/2 years have passed and you are doing good], so certain home care which you can follow are:

- eat high fiber food and maintain proper hydration.
- eat a well balanced, healthy diet.
- Avoid alcohol/smoking, caffeine, spicy food. [citrus and tomato based foods]
- try steaming vegetables to make them soft, so they are easier to chew and swallow.
- take fruits rich in vitamins A, E, C, D and E which help to improve the functioning of several organs.
- Low-fat dairy products.

PS. make sure to ask dietitian or friends/relatives to maintain the recommended diet for avoiding malnutrition or other complications.
