What Percentage Of Blockage In Heart Is Angioplasty Suggest?

Hi i am rahul jain..my father's age is 52..he went for cholestrol checkup and it was high..and doctor recommended him for angiography and then he was asking us to be ready for the angioplasty is there is any bockage in heart..so what should we do now? should we wait for sometime... and at what percentage of blackage it is neccasary to have angioplasty and is it can be cured from medicines? Please suggest

Dear Sir
Thanks for writing to us.
First of all, angiogram has been promoted as a quick fix solution to healthy heart which is not correct. If your father has any symptom, consult a good cardiologist and if there is a suspicion of significant angina, he will advise stress testing.
Angiogram is indicated only in high risk positive stress test or acute heart attack.
Usually the obstruction should be more than 70% for doing angioplasty. 50% or more obstruction of left main artery requires bypass surgery.
