What Must I Do When My Test Result Is Suggesting Hepatic Steatosis Or Another Hepatic Parenchymal Disease?

I had labs done 3 days ago and had many abnormalities. My thyroid labs were at 24.6 Liver enzymes were high so that prompted me to get an ultrasound. They couldn’t get my results back to me so they sent me a message. Can you help me understand it? FINDINGS/IMPRESSION: The examination is limited by habitus and acoustic windows. The liver has a coarsened echotexture suggesting hepatic steatosis or another hepatic parenchymal disease. No intrahepatic ductal dilation or discrete liver mass. No cholelithiasis. No pericholecystic fluid. There was presumptive identification of the common bile duct which measured 5-6 mm in AP dimension which is within normal limits.

Hi,

Your thyroid labs (perhaps TSH) is 24.6, which is definitely more than the normal range, thus, pointing towards condition of hypothyroidism. Also, as you say, that your liver enzymes are high which indicate the probability of some liver disease or injury. Moreover, your ultrasound is also showing hepatic steatosis (More fat in the liver).

Here, the cause of hepatic steatosis like fatty liver cirrhosis, alcoholic liver cirrhosis may have to be determined. Also, the ultrasound has shown possibility of other parenchymal disease, which also needs further investigations. Also, it is to be seen, if your thyroid values as well as Liver dysfunctions are isolated disorders or related to each other. Do further evaluation with detailed history. Consult your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
