What Medication Would Be Required According To Cholesterol, Trigylcerides, HDL And LDL Levels?

My cholesterol details are: mg/dl Cholesterol Total 256.00 Triglycerides 223.00 HDL Cholesterol 54.00 LDL Cholesterol,Calculated 157.40 VLDL Cholesterol,Calculated 44.60 Age 58 yrs. Kindly suggest about medicine.

Hello,
Thank you for using Healthcare Magic in such a situation.
Based on your lipid test results there is a type IIb lipid metabolism disorder with high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides (LDL and VLDL). I suggest to start Atorvastatin 10 mg once daily at afternoon. It is a HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitor which prevents cholesterol synthesis in the liver cells. Due to possible side effects affecting the liver, regular follow-up is suggested with blood tests including: SGOT, SGPT, GGT, ALP and CPK after three months on therapy. Take into consideration to avoid using at the same time alchohol or medications which may damage the liver such as: Paracetamol, Augmentine, Nitrofurantoine etc...
