HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If the coughing is worse when you try to lay down, it possible that GERD may be causing some of the symptoms. Reflux is one of the common causes chronic cough.

Reflux symptoms can be worse on lying flat. You may want to try lifestyle changes as well as medication.
Lifestyle changes would include: reducing use of spicy/acidic/fatty/fried foods, using small meals and waiting 2 hours after eating before laying flat.

Weight loss of any excess weight would also help.

I hope this helps
