What Medication Is Suggested For Weakness In Leg For A Diabetic?

Hi: My neighbor just recently was perscribed this medication because she had a sudden weakness in one leg on two different occasions---she is diabetic and she has read about the side effects and doesn t want to take the medication; she is afraid of stroke or heart attack---do the benefits outweigh the side effects?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

Happy to know you are so concerned about your neighbor.
However, the query has not added all the details needed.

What is the medicine that was added? The query does not say which tablet is being prescribed.

Besides, what are the other symptoms? As I see it, two episodes of right lower limb weakness should definitely have stroke ruled out. By just those symptoms that you have mentioned, I will not think of heart attack.

Besides, one needs to make sure there is no back problem. And in a long standing diabetic, neuropathy- the affect of sugar on nerves- should also be ruled out.

I would suggest an MRI + MRA brain and NCV of the affected leg to get to a diagnosis.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
