Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My lips are horrible. I am a african American, and i've looked into alot into this and I can't really find a resolution. They're pinkish and blackish, my bottom part of my lip is my normal color and the middle is dark and the top is pink but it's very messy and very noticeable. When I was young I fell on my face and hit my bottom lip, and it bled, when it healed skin began to to peel and I bit it off and it bled more and i think thats why they're like this and they've got worse.

What Leads To Discolouration Of Lips?
Hi Dear, Welcome to HCM. Understanding your concern. Thanks for your query . The lip discoloration you mention in query occur due to post inflammatory hyper pigmentation. The hyper pigmentation occur when melanocytes are triggered to produce excess pigmant. I would suggest you to :- - Wash your face with mild soap and cold water twice a day. - Exfoliate your lip once a week . - Apply kojic acid cream twice a day as it is very effective and safe for long term use . - Apply lip balm with SPF 15 while going outside to prevent further pigmentation after sun exposure . - Apply vitamin E oil at night. If condition doesn t start getting improve in a month then consult dermatologist . Doctor will examine it properly . He/she may prescribe hydroquinone cream or may recommend procedure like laser therapy or chemical peeling. Hope your concern has been resolved. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
