Hello! VDRL (Veneral Diseases Research Laboratory) test is a serologic test that is used to screen and to confirm infection from treponema pallidum, which causes syphilis. Most states have included this test at the normal screening tests during first months of pregnancy. To confirm syphilis other tests are performed after this one. For women at high risk of infection (that have many sexual partners or unprotected sex that belong to communities with high prevalence) the test should be repeated even during the third trimester. Since it is an easy test (by blood) and doesn't endanger pregnancy you should do it.
I hope i have been of help.
