Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My grandson just got diagnosed with JRA and we got all kinds of answer regarding treatment, what do you suggest, is there a hot line that I can call to get more information, what kind of research are being done to treat this, I have lots of questions. Thank you for your time. Gabriella
Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) or Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) also known as juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA), is an autoimmune condition that affects children and adolescents and could lead to serious complications like eye inflammation which could even lead to blindness. Treatment is usually done with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and intra-articular corticosteroid injections. Sometimes methotrexate or TNF alpha blockers like etanercept, are used as disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) to suppress joint inflammation. There is no hotline available to help you procure information on the condition but a simple google search with the terms that I have mentioned, would give you enough information that would be both relevant and reasonable to satisfy the answers to your questions. You can also remain under the follow up of a rheumatologist who will be able to give you appropriate information and also would be able to treat the condition.
