What Is The Treatment For Under Active Thyroid In A Child?
Is is possible for a 10-year-old girl to have an under active thyroid? My daughter suffers from some of the symptoms associated with low thyroid function (weight gain, sluggishness, irritability, difficulty rising in the morning) despite a well-balanced diet.

An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) is usually treated by taking daily hormone replacement tablets called levothyroxine.
Levothyroxine replaces the thyroxine hormone, which the thyroid does not make enough of.
You'll initially have regular blood tests until the correct dose of levothyroxine is reached.
