What Is The Treatment For Swollen, Painful, Pus-filled Lump On Thigh?

I have a large swollen lump on my upper inner thigh - a large portion of it is under the skin but there is a large pimple on the exterior that is very painful and has some water/puss/blood coming from it. Squeezing the larger under surface lump is not producing anything just pain. Need to know if I must visit the hospital.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM.

I would keep a possibility of furuncle with surrounding cellulitis.

In such a case if i was your treating doctor i would have started you on oral antibiotics (penicillin group e,g Amoxicillin in combination with clavulanic acid) thrice daily for a week

A topical antibacterial ointment, e.g 2% mupirocin can be applied at the site of infection.

Pain and discomfort can be greatly relieved by once or twice daily Ibuprofen which is available OTC.

take care
regards
