What Is The Treatment For Pressure Headache?

I received a concussion this past Saturday from a lacrosse game. I did not go unconscious. I was hit directly in the upper lip hard and afterward since then I get pressure around my nose and eyes. This pressure headache, as I call it, gets worse throughout the day. Should I be concerned? I ve seen a doctor and sports trainer but I am anxious.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that it is normal to have headache and facial pain after a head trauma.

Although, it is important to perform a careful physical examination to exclude possible injuries of the soft tissues and bones.
A brain CT scan may be needed if suspicions are raised.

Meanwhile I advise using painkillers for some days.

If all the above tests result normal and the pain persists more than a month I would advice to discuss with your attending physician the possibility of starting amytriptiline or gabapentine, which are helpful in chronic pain.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
