What Is The Treatment For Marfan Syndrome Other Than Surgery?

Hi Iam 24 years old 7 years back a doctor detected that I have marfan Syndrome...Told to check heart every year.Heart Seams to be ok....But these days I am getting lot of flash lights in my eyes. and morever constantly my left eyes power is increasing since last 4-5 years. My left eyes power was (-1.00) and now it is (-4.75) while right from -0.75 to -2.50 has become stable...One more problem I have told doctors that My left eye If I view from Left eye alone then the white background looks little brown (shaded brown) and If I look with only right eye then it is bright white. But doctors said nothing can be done .My left eye whatever number Specs I wear but that clarity is not there.Last year sonography was done and he said that my right eye has enermous Floaters. So no solution other than Surgery...But Now Iam adjusted with it...Please Help about Flash lights .Is it a symptom of becoming Blind?

Thanks for posting your query at HealthCareMagic. Marfan syndrome is a genetic disorder of human connective tissue. It has various expressions ranging from mild to severe: the most serious complications are defects of the heart valves and aorta, which often lead to early death. The syndrome also may affect the lungs, eyes, dural sac surrounding the spinal cord, the skeleton, and the hard palate.

Many parts of our body are made of connective tissue. For example the valves of the heart. As they are unable to maintain their structural integrity, often errors of their functionality develop. The globe of the eye is also made of connective tissue. The transparent front portion and the lens focus the light on the back portion of the eyeball, a part known as retina. Since the globe cannot maintain its structure properly, the power of the eyes vary as in your case. The weakening of connective tissue may even cause detachment of the retina. Difference in the colour vision that you report is probably due to defect in retina that has already occurred. Early onset glaucoma can be another related problem. Probably the floaters that you mention are caused due to this.

You would probably not get much relief even with surgery. So, all you need to do is to accept these. There are problems in everybody's lives. Perhaps your problems are much on the higher side. Life is all about how we deal with those.

Hope that helps. Feel free to contact back with any other queries if any.
