Hi, I am 70 year old male with high BP. recently my doc prescribed me to Etizolam .5mg as I was suffering from insomnia due to anxiety. I am using this tablet twice daily for for the last 45 days. Now I want to stop using it but my doc suggested me to continue it for another 6 months although I sleep like a log everyday after using this tablet. I am worried about withdrawals if I stop it now. What should I do? Any suitable taper plan? What are the symptoms of withdrawal?? Thank you for reading.
Respected sir I can understand your concern . Etizolam is used for anxiety and insomnia . If you think that you are perfectly all right except excessive sleep even at day time then you can discus with your physician for reducing it's dose to half ..its .5 mg at night before sleep only..don't worry about dependence it's relatively very safe drug and it can be slowly tapered and stop.. The main problem with abrupt stoppage of this drug is rebound insomnia . That I don't think you will like..so in my opinion discuss about all this issues with your physician and tell him about your excessive sleep that is not good for you. .He will definitely reduce the dose..and if he think that you need anti anxiety treatment for long time he can substitute this with non sedating anti anxiety drug. Hope this will help.
