What Is The Treatment For Guilt Feeling?

I have met a 68 yr. old man who keeps cancelling dates when we are supposed to get together because of guilt trips laid on by his family - mainly his daughter and possibly his mother. He has paid for 3 different types of training for his daughter and has been married three times although this was quite some time ago. Personally I don t know whether to keep trying - sometimes I feel that he really doesn t have room in his life for a relationship or whether this will pass. Can you give me some advice on what to do. I think he is basically a nice person but he is allowing his life to be run by guilt.

Hi,
I read your query and understood your concerns. It might help to allow him discuss his guilt issues openly with you and thus help him make a confident decision. However, on your part, its important for you to see what is it that you want. It might help to reflect on what your needs are and how they are getting satisfied in this relationship. A couple/individual therapist might be able to help you both gain clarity over these matters.
Best of luck!
