What Is The Treatment For Feet Swelling?

my father is 87 and in stage 3 of congestive heart failure. I was wondering if he should keep his feet elevated to help with swelling or if it is not going to help and is better to not pester him to keep them up. He just got out of the hospital and is swelling and feeling just awful and I just don t know what to do for him to help him and also he is resistant to help. I know some people just want to suffer in private. I am at a loss as to what to do.

Hi, I will try to help you with your father's feet swelling.

When there is loss of contractile function of the heart loses some of its ability to pump blood forward and liquids become accumulated in various parts of the body, especially the lungs, liver and legs. This fluid accumulation in the legs is responsible for the local edema.

If the CHF is the cause of leg edema, we should treat CHF to improve the case, so you need to look for the cardiologist of your aunt to define a more appropriate treatment. However there is another very common problem that can cause this leg edema is chronic venous insufficiency is a problem in the veins of the legs and thighs that hinder the blood flow back of the legs and feet back to the heart. There are several treatments for this problem and monitoring the vascular surgeon is needed.

In both situations, elevate his feet above heart level can help control edema. This approach is very simple and causes little discomfort to the patient. Furthermore, he must follow the restriction to excessive fluid and salt intake, and also the appropriate use of medications for heart failure.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help you. Wish you good health.
