Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm a 19 year old female and I believe I have depression. I don't like asking for help, and even if I did, I don't know where to start. I don't really have a family doctor so I just normally go to a clinic. I know I should get help but I don't know where to go or what to do. Please help.
You have symptoms which you believe are due to to depression. Depression symptoms should be evaluated by a psychiatrist only. I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for evaluation. Depressive disorder is diagnosed by presence of symptoms like decreased energy, low mood, tiredness, lack of interest in day to day routine, hopelessness, worthlessness, helplessness etc symptoms. Many tests are available that can diagnose the severity of depression. HAM-D scale is one of these scales that is commonly used.
In depression medicines like SSRIs, SNRIs or Tricyclic antidepressants are used. These medicines help to improve the symptoms and result in improved functioning.
Thanks, hope this helps you. Take Care
