What Is The Treatment For Cough?

I got the flu around december 10th and then bronchitis but it is not getting better. Sometimes i dont cough all day and now today i am coughing like crazy. Is it better to cough? There is nothing coming up when i cough. plus now i think i have a sinus infection...is this normal to be sick for this long...over a month? Also, when i go outside and come back in i cough even more.

Hello
I appreciate your concern
chronic cough for long duration warrants detail evaluation to find out the underlying cause which can be any of these

infection or inflammation of the respiratory tract
COPD
allergic reaction
Tuberculosis
Lung cancer

If I were your treating your doctor I would have advised you for a battery of tests after thorough clinical examination like blood for hemoglobin, CBC, ESR, Sputum microscopy and an X ray chest

In my opinion you should take anti allergic drugs like levocetirizine or fexofenadine for 7 to 10 days
Try to find out any trigger for cough and avoid it
Deep breathing exercises
Steam inhalation
cough lozenges during cough bouts

If it doesn't improve with this than you must visit your doctor for investigations to confirm the diagnosis and treatment accordingly

Hope this answers your question
