Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Treatment For GERD And Abdominal Pain?
I ve been having stomach pain right below my left rib. It radiates up my chest and to my middle back. It s a gnawing pain. I have a hiatal hernia. Otherwise I have had all kinds of tests but was told it was Gerd and I m taking omeprazole but it doesn t seem to be working. I burp up food after eating also. Seems like the pain is worse after eating. Also alchohol seems to make it worse the day after.
I understand the concern you have towards this problem. I understand that you are worried and I will help allay the anxiety you have.
Based on the symptoms that you have given, there is a small chance that this is Heart Related. 4 % of heart attacks present as acidity and we need to rule this out. It would be best to see a Doctor and get an ECG done to rule this out.
If the ECG is negative, I would suspect that the hiatal hernia has worsened. In this case, you can get surgery done to repair the hernia. This will greatly reduce the symptoms you are having. The findings that this is a hiatal hernia are seen in you as well. The worsening after taking foods and the worsening with alcohol point to this.
Do see a Doctor and confirm the diagnosis with a endoscopy and then get the surgery done if needed.
All the best. Dr Vignan
