What Is The Time Needed For Smell And Taste Senses To Become Normal After Sinus Infection?

How long before smell and taste return after a sinus infection? Age 45 5' 7" have had minimal taste and smell, fiished antibiotic two days ago and am afraid that smell and taste will not come back. i have been put on prednisone to help shrink nasal passages.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that you are still having nasal congestion and in case if the nasal passages will be closed the sense of smell as well as taste will be compromised as both these senses are inter-related..
But you need not to worry as loss of sense of taste and smell caused due to sinusitis and nasal congestion is not permanent and as the congestion will resolve there will be gradual regaining of sense of taste and smell..
Along with taking steroids you can also do saline nasal irrigations, steam inhalations and also put decongestant nasal drops like Otrivin, nasivion etc..
You can also use steroid nasal sprays..
Avoid chilled foods and if possible air conditioned atmosphere too..
Sip on plenty of warm fluids..
In case if still there is no improvement in a week to ten days consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated..
