What Is The Time Gap To Take Contraceptive After Having Unsafe Sex?

I take birth control and have been for about a year. I forgot to take a pill either Tuesday or Wednesday and only realized this (Friday) morning, so I doubled up today. I had sex Thursday morning and he finished inside of me. Should i take emergency contraception? What are my chances of getting pregnant? Thank you!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dr. Hanif warmly welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and can well realize your health worries. Being your physician, I want to assure, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

Neither it is recommended doubling the dose when you missed a dose, nor it has any impact on the outcome. So if you forget the dose, take it whenever you remember. If there are less than 6-8 hours left for next dose, forget about the forgotten dose and you have just to take the next dose in time.

You should check with your laboratory for a pregnancy test. Usually in such a situation we give morning after pill within 48-72 hours after sex.

Hope I answered all of your questions. Have a wonderful time ahead. Keep in touch for a follow-up too.

Regards!
