What Is The Success Rate For Restoring Conductive Hearing Loss Post Tympanoplasty?

I had a failed tympanoplasty operation back in March. Looking to possibly try again. Not sure if I will use same doctor as I am told it will basically be same procedure just another try though sucess rate drops to about 70 percent. Concerned about choosing a different doctor as well as anything I can do to improve chances for what I thought was a basic operation. 50 year old patient with history of some chronic ear infections for 6 years perforation developed back Oct 2014 - had operation in March 2015 - by July said hole had not closed. Is there a way to find the dr. who has highest success rate in GA on this type procedure...I just need to start asking again...been bounced to a number of ENT s over course of 7 years....no active infection at moment I am told and it is okay to wait to decide....next appt. in Feb 14. Looking to make sure my 2nd attempt - I am doing everything I can to restore what I am told is conductive hearing loss mainly.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Tympanoplasty is an operation performed to repair damaged tympanic membrane.
Success of the surgery is determined by the extent of damage and control of underlying infection.
Tympanoplasty basically helps to give you a dry ear, almost free from infections. The improvement in hearing could happen between 30 to 70%.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
