What Is The Solution For Itchy Scalp With Dandruff?

Hey!! I am a 24 yr old woman. I have been facing dandruff problems from since my early teens and from since then the general health of my hair has degraded. My dandruff is dry and flaky, it also leads to an itchy scalp and very rarely gives rise to terrible headache. My hair has become thinner, the volume has reduced over the years. And also i am having a lot of split-ends. Could you please suggest a solution to all these problems. And also, how often is it advisable to wash your hair in a week.

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Seborrheic dermatitis Or dandruff is a very common cause of increased hair shedding.

I usually suggest a 2% ketoconazole based shampoo in my patients of seborrheic dermatitis, to be used twice or thrice weekly.

For severe dandruff, initially, you could also use a topical steroid lotion once or twice daily at the scalp skin in addition to the antidandruff shampoo.

Once the dandruff is well controlled you could stop the topical steroid lotion and simply continue with antidandruff lotion twice or once weekly for maintenance.
