I am looking for advice for my son. He has a problem with his bowel movements. We took him to the doctor Tuesday. Told to give him a laxative and stool softener. Has had 4 doses of laxatives and still no poop. Any advice? When he was younger he would have big poops and now says he cant feel when he needs to go
Hi. Thank for your query. Noted the history about your son having a problem with his bowel movements. Took him to the Doctor, advised stool softeners and laxative but no poop in spite if 4 dosages of laxative, wants advise, now he says he can not feel when he needs to go. Since the problem persists in spite laxative for 4 doses I would advise you the following: Take him to the Doctor again. Ask for an X-ray of the abdomen to see whether he has developed fecoliths in colon. If present then he needs enema in conventional way to make evacuation possible, then the laxatives would work. Ask to take a full diet and lots of fluids. Sitz bath in a tub with warm water. Avoid all teh foods and beverages that cause constipation.
