What Is The Solution For Burping And Nausea After A Viral Infection?

my daughter had a 24hr stomach virus last month and ever since then every time she has to burp she thinks that she is going to throw up (throwing up obviously scares her). She was just freaking out thinking that she had to throw up and she just kept on burping and burping ( a lot) then she started gagging because she is now in panic mode. So, I don t know if she is really sick or just freaking herself out.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

First of all you do not know if it was a viral or bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract.
Sometimes acute bacterial infection leaves some bacteria in the GI tract which grow there and cause chronic infection. Such infection can aggravate anxiety and give symptoms mentioned by you.
That is why I suggest your daughter to have stool test and stool culture test done at first. If she has any upper middle abdominal pain, gastroscopy should be considered.
Please also discuss with a doctor Rifaximine treatment for chronic bacterial infection.
In a meanwhile she should start probiotic intake, avoid fatty foods, coffee, caffeinated drinks.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
