Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a bleeding ulcer in April I took zantac for a while but I do not want to live on this drug. Are there tests to find out what caused the ulcer..I don 't drink or smoke and h pylori was negative I had taken advil for quite some time but had not used advil for a year prior to my bleeding ulcers. I was under stress at the time. Everything seems to be answered with...take this pill etc. Will an ulcer go away on it's own!

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.Advil (ibuprofen) can be the cause of ulcer. For treatment of ulcer you need to take medication for long time.Fibrogastroduodenoscopy examination gives the location and characteristic of ulcer.I usually treat my patients with proton pump inhibitors like rabeperazole and antiemetic domperidone if reflux is present.I also give sucralfate syrup or tab also.Diet is also important in this.Should have short meals at regular intervals.Avoid spicy, oily foods smoking alcohol and stress. In case of complications like bleeding or perforation surgery might be needed.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
