What Is The Remedy For Slight Sore Throat?

I have had a cold for 2 weeks and a slight sore throat for 1 week. I keep getting a tickle in my throat which leads to violent coughing. This is happening at night as well, especially when I lie down. I m getting very little sleep. What can I do? I just want to get a decent nights sleep again.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

This seems to be continued rhinitis along with sinusitis hence when you lie down the fluid from sinuses escape through the opening due to changes posture and cause post-nasal drip. This irritates the already inflamed throat mucosa to cause violent coughing. Hence I would advise you the following:
- Consult your Doctor for preliminary examination, investigations like that of blood and X-ray of sinuses in standing position to see for any air-fluid level
- Get started on primary treatment like Nasal decongestant drops
- Steam inhalation
- Oral decongestant and anti-inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen if it suits you
- Antibiotic will be prescribed if your doctor feels so
- Do these thing before sleep to have proper drainage of sinuses so that the sinus discharge is reduced and you get sleep
- Try to sleep on sides
- Consult an ENT surgeon for further evaluation, investigations and any additional treatment if the primary treatment fails to relieve your symptoms

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
