What Is The Purple Color In The Head After An Injury?

My son sustained a serious head injury. He had a large bump on the top of his head with an abrasion. Today the school nurse found a purple color that was on his head under the hair...she assumed it was hair die from Halloween. Tonight as I tried to wash the hair die it seemed to disappear as I rubbed but none came off on the towel. After lying down the purple color came back, but as I pulled the hair back it was gone...should I be concerned and take him to the ER?

It might be blood clot resolving now.
The clotted blood which is deoxygenated can give purple color to the skin.
However if problem persists consult your physician.
