What Is The Prognosis For Terminal Brain Cancer?

My father was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer this week. He has 20 lesions in his brain. They say it was caused by some other part of his body-possibly in his neck where they found a tumor. How long can he be expected to live if he undergoes radiation therapy?

I am sorry about your father terminal illness, I'm sure it must be hard for you.
It is difficult to give an exact answer to your question. It depends also on other factors like age, his current general condition and level of disability. Also it depends on what do you mean by radiotherapy, whether whole brain radiation therapy or stereotactic radiosurgery which is not available everywhere only in advanced clinics.
However given the fact that it's a case of multiple metastases I am afraid that unfortunately things don't look good, I would say around 3 months, perhaps up to 6 months if his still active and independent for the moment and under the age of 65. It's just a generalization from current survival studies though, every patient has his individual course which may differ from the average.
I hope to have been of some help. Feel free to ask further questions.
