What Is The Prognosis For Stage 4 Bowel Cancer?

Hello, my dear friend was diagnosed with stage 4? bowel cancer last year and underwent surgery and had a colostomy which has since been reversed. A year down the track she has had to have a liver resection, after surgery they advised her that they could not remove all of the cancer, hopefully a new portion of liver would generate and then they could operate again removing more. Following this huge surgery she went for a PET scan, the results of which cam in yesterday, more surgery is not an option as the cancer is in a section of the liver that is behind major blood vessels and also present on the new portion of liver. Also there showed bone cancer in one leg. It is a question I hate to ask, but need to know what sort of time frame she could expect to live for. The specialist said yesterday that they would not quantify it in years. Thank you.
