What Is The Need For Pap Smear Test While Having Multiple Sexual Partners?

Hi I am 19 years old and I got my first pap smear test today. I started having sex 2 months before my 18th birthday and have had 3 sex partners in total. My doctor originally told me i wouldn t have to take a pap smear test till i was 21, until I told her I was sexually active and had 3 sex partners and have had unprotected sex. I m freaking out! Does this mean somethings wrong or I m at high risk or something? Does this mean I have an STD? Is it normal to get a pap smear before 21? What is my doctor not telling me? I want to tell my mom I got a pap smear but I don t want her to know I am sexually active. If I tell her will she immediately know that I am sexually active?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pap test is done to detect pre-cancer or cancer of the cervix.
A major risk factor for cancer of the cervix is infection with human papilloma virus (HPV).
Sexually activity is closely associated with HPV infection.
Starting of sexual activity early, having multiple partners are risk factors for acquiring HPV infection and thus development of cancer of cervix in future.
In order to reduce the risk, you may practice protected sex.
This is the rationale behind your doctor advising you to take up pap test at early age.
