What Is The Life Span Of Person On Bypass Machine?

How long can a person live on bypass. My friend age 40 had heart surgery and they could not repair, there were complications and she was put on a transplant list last week. She has been on bypass machine since. How long can a person stay alive on bypass machine ?

Hi.

80–85 per cent of patients are alive a year after having an LVAD fitted

70–75 per cent after two years are alive.

This isvery good considering that many of them would only have had a life expectancy of 12 months or less before their LVAD treatment.

During this two yaers yopu can find a suitable donor for heart transplant .
