What Is The Life Expectancy Of An Elderly Person Post Hip Replacement?

Hi. My mom recently broke her hip and had the ball replaced, then before that had a heart issue, ended up being low blood pressure thats why she fell, then just had some t.m.i. s? Is it true that after a hip replacement an ederly person doesnt live very long? Do you think she will drive again after a the t.i.a.s? thank you. She is 86.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hip replacement surgery has no relation with life expectancy. surgery can affect the quality of life but not longevity of life. It is better she doesn't drive regularly at this age. after complete recovery if only she is comfortable, then in rare case or in emergency she can drive but at age of 86, evaluation of diabetes is also necessary. Sugar level also affects the capacity of brain to take various decisions.
