What Is The Ideal Weight For Four Months Old Infants?

Hello Doctor I have been blessed with twins baby boy. They are now 4 months. My breast milk was not enough to fill their stomach so the doctor suggested to use Dexolac premium 1. Twin 1 is 5 kg (birth weight was 2.5 kg) and twin 2 is 5 5 kg (birth weight was 2.05). Actually I am giving both breast & formula milk.I just want to know that --They are ok with their weight? -What else should I can give them except milk.-When can I start using Dexolac premium 2? Waiting your your reply. Thank you Jyotshna

Hello,

Congratulations on receiving two bundles of joy! I hope both are healthy. From the standpoint of their weight, both are thriving. There is a rule of thumb that a healthy baby will double his/her birthweight by 5-6 months of age.

So, their weights are certainly okay. Most pediatricians recommend starting baby food between 4-6 months of age. Infants should be fed from a spoon with no baby foods added to the bottle.

You may begin with meats because of the iron that meats contain to lessen the chance of anemia. Every three-four days you may go for example, from meat to turkey to chicken, etc.

After a couple of weeks, you can add vegetables and fruits always remembering to add only one new food at a time so that if an allergy develops you will have an idea of which food to blame.

If the baby food is tolerated, after a few days of one teaspoonful twice a day, you may advance to one and a half teaspoonfuls twice a day and then as per appetite.

When they start on baby foods, don't be surprised if their milk intake decreases. I think it would be good to wait until they are 6 months old to use Dexolac Premium 2.

Tips for twins: both should be fed when one cries for food; when baby food is given, one bowl and one spoon is used for both.

As they become older, you can give them different clothes and different toys so each has his own possessions.

Parents should go out of their way to talk to both and read to them, to try to avoid the language delay which is so common.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Arnold Zedd, Pediatrician
