What Is The Difference Between Geographic Tongue And Oral Candida?

How do I know if I have geographic tongue of oral candida? For last few months I have no too heavy white coating on my tongue only and large red spot on front and right side of my tongue. It doesn t change too much and doesn t move around. I also have soma cracks of the tip of my tongue. I am on candida diet for last 2 months just in case it is candida (no vaginal or any other problems). It s a healthy diet anyway. Thank you Dasha

Hi Dear Dasha,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of red spots, white coating on tongue along with some cracks tongue which is mainly due to fungal infection of oral cavity. As these patterns on tongue are not changing and not moving around so probable chances are that it is not geographic tongue. It is mainly oral thrush by candida infection.

I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene as it occurs because of poor oral hygiene and compromised immunity of body. Do brushing and flossing two times a day. Use Listerine mouthwash to prevent microbe accumulation in oral cavity.

Use Nystatin suspensions to rinse oral cavity. Use antifungal medications. Avoid hot, sharp and spicy food substances. Drink green tea its very effective.

Use apple cedar vinegar on cotton to apply on spots in oral cavity.

Take diet rich in probiotics such as yogurt.

Do warm saline gargles three times a day.

If your symptoms keep son persisting visit dentist once and get it examined and start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
