What Is The Difference Between Synthroid And Levothyroxine?

What is the difference between Synthroid and it s generic Levothyroxine? My son, 15, has been taking the generic for about 10 years but recently his does was increased tremendously. Since then he has had stomach pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. I was curious if it could be from the medicine and wondering if switching to name brand would help.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Synthyroid and Levothyroxine medications would be the same and provides thyroxine in cases of hypothyroidism.
The symptoms what he is facing could be due some other cause which needs to be investigated and treated.
Change in the brand might not be helpful in overcoming such symptoms.
Kindly seek Physician opinion in this regard for appropriate evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
