What Is The Difference Between Glycomet MF And SR ?

Dr my FBS is120 and PPBS is 205. One doctor advised to take Glycomet MF once Before breakfast. But another docter (my friend) asked to start with Glycomet SR 500 twice daily. And IF this fails after one month then only to change to Glycomet MF. Please advise. ____ CN PATRA

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Glycomet MF contains both Glipizide and Metformin which is used to treat type-2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It helps control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. Glipizide is a sulfonylurea which works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to lower the blood glucose. Metformin is a biguanide which works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from intestines and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.

Glycomet SR contains only metformin which is used to treat type-2 diabetes mellitus. It helps control blood sugar levels and thus prevents serious complications of diabetes. It is also used to treat menstruation related disorder known as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in women.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
