I am asking this for my 61 year old grandmother. She was a diabetic patient since last 12 years. But from last year onwards her sugar level is too high and the doctor told to use the insulin pump 3 times a day.Even then she cannot bring the sugar level down. Now the doctor is saying that this is a rare case and told that she need to fit a device in her body which cost Rs100000 to control the sugar level. What is your opinion about this device.I want to know more about this device. Please reply to my e-mail id: akhilr93@yahoo.com
Hi. Diabetes is a progressive disease so if a person has diabetes for a very long time the insulin producing capacity of the body comes down to almost zero when you need to supplement it from outside with the help of injections. You have already mentioned that you are using an insulin pump. I take it that it is an external device. Maybe the doctor is suggesting you a device for continous blood sugar monitoring. It is worn as a wrist watch, extracts fluid through the skin by sending out tiny electric currents. The watch may be worn for 12 consecutive hours, producing 3 measurements every hour, even while asleep. An alarm will sound if blood glucose levels are detected to be dangerously low, or if a measurement was skipped, as can occur in the presence of excessive sweat. Please confirm with your doctor if he is suggesting you an insulin delivery device or a sugar level monitoring device. Take care
