Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Cracking and hurting jaws associated with difficulty in opening mouth can be due to-

Dislocated or inflammed TMJ.

TMJ fracture.

I would suggest you to get thorough clinical as well as OPG examination to rule out the cause of jaw pain.

Analgesics along with muscle relaxants can be administered.

Jaws has to be immobilised for a while.

Splinting or intermaxillary fixation has to be done.

Take care.

hello
jaw cracking and pain is mostly related to TMJ disorder
so waht i would i advise is get an opg done and consult your dentist
most probably outer lining of glenoid fosaa is troubling
you may have to go through inter maxillar fixatation
in the mean while what i would advise is that
1.have soft diet i.e. avoid hard food
2.try not to open your mouth big
3.while moving or while sleeping have a bandage worn around so that your joint is immobile
4.while yawning try to keep hands on your lower jaw so that your mouth is not open to extreme limits
hope that helps

Hi,

welcome to Healthcaremagic Forum

The symptoms you are having are commonly seen in ligament injuries leading the bony prominences in the joint to rub each other producing cracking sound.Any kind of minor trauma would have induced the same. Since the ligaments ( fibrous bands connecting the bones )are very small and weak when compared to ones in big joints its advisable to prevent any more puling or stretching over them, this could be achieved by giving rest to the joint by consuming soft foods and avoiding self manipulation of the joint.
And surgery is not a choice if the injury is minor , the severity of the injury can be determined by the symptoms like pain and movement restriction.

Thanks for visiting healthcaremagic.com

Bye
