What Is The Cause Of Lightheadedness, and Could It Be Due To Anxiety And Stress?

I have a history a really bad anxiety and stress- I was previously on citalopram and alprazolam to control this anxiety. Then I was off of it for about a year and a half because it seemed to be gone. Then I started to get these little waves of lightheadedness- it feels like when you sit up too fast, but it doesn't stick- it just feels like I feel a rush of lightheadedness and then it goes away after a couple of seconds. My doctor said it's anxiety, but I worry that something else could be wrong. Now, I am on my anti-anxiety medicine again, but I was given too high of a dose for citalopram- to where I needed to take alprazolam to feel normal. What do you think?

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

It is quite possible that the light-headedness could be a symptom of anxiety. It is important to remember that anxiety can manifest with not only physhological symptoms, but also with physical symptoms.

Having said that, it is also important that any possible medical causes should also be ruled out. For example, medical conditions like hypertension, diabetes, anemia, etc. can also present with light-headedness. So, I would suggest that you get yourself examined and properly evaluated by a doctor in order to find out the exact cause of your symptom.

Wish you all the best.
